Greetings! Last night I needed some antibiotic cream for Rick. I couldn’t find one tube in my house! I suspect my children ate it on saltines ; ). So off to the dollar store I went to get some more.
The Dollar store can be a great resource for you when you are prepping on a budget. I spent .00 and got a lot of extras for my first aid bin. I was really surprised to find some Curad Silver Solution antibiotic cream there. I bought 8 tubes but think I will go back for several more. I just don’t think that you can be too prepared. This will not go bad and if you store it properly can potentially have a very long shelf life.
I also purchased several tubes of vitamin A and D cream, what we like to call A&D Ointment. This is extremely useful for chapped lips, dry skin, and if you have an infant or toddler, this is an excellent thing to have on hand for diaper rash or chafing. Threw in some Scar cream a couple boxes of bandaids and 4 bottles each of peroxide and rubbing alcohol.
I have many people send me personal messages asking me to help them understand where to start when it comes to food storage. I always say store what you eat and eat what you store, but I feel that making sure you have the proper first aid supplies is just as important, if not a bit more important. The dollar store can help you fill your first aid kit or in my case bins without breaking your budget.
If you are going to consider purchasing oral medications at the dollar store, I would be very careful to make sure that they are made in the USA and not anywhere else. I would even suggest that you don’t buy those things at the dollar store at all. The items that I purchased were all made in the USA and I have no doubt that they are fine and well made.
I shop at the Dollar Tree, they have an online store where you can order items in bulk and have them delivered to your home or your local store. If you have them delivered to the store for pick up, they will not charge you shipping!
I hope that this helps and that you will consider the dollar store in your area the next time you need to stock your first aid kit!
